Understanding "The Elderly Challenge"

- Explain in your own words, the FOUR key recommendations of the report.

1. Housing for Seniors
- There would be different housing options to cater to the needs of the seniors. The housing options have senior-friendly features for the seniors to remain independent. It will also help bring the seniors closer to their families.

2. Accessibility for Seniors
- Transportation and buildings are amended to allow the seniors for safe and easy accessibility. Transportation should not be posed as a problem for the elderly to continue their daily lifestyle.

3. Caring for Seniors
- Eldercare and healthcare services would be easily accessible, efficient and affordable. 

4. Opportunities for Seniors
- There would be activities organised by the community clubs to let the seniors lead an active lifestyle and they would also have more time to spend with their families.

- State ONE way that the CAI report is recommending to make our public housing more elderly-friendly

They could vary the length of land leases as shorter land leases will facilitate the development of retirement housing by the private sector.

- State TWO ways on how we can ensure that the quality of elderly care here in Singapore is affordable

1. Top up the Medisave accounts of less well-of Singaporeans when there are budget surpluses to ensure that seniors have the means to afford healthcare services.

2. Family physicians within close proximity to the client will ensure that the seniors’ needs will be taken care of.

- After reading the CAI report, what do you are the THREE things that you can do, as an SST student, to help overcome these elderly challenges

1. I could start by taking care of the seniors at home if they need help with certain tasks and developing a positive mindset towards the elderly.

2. I could think of new ways to improve the facilities and accessibility of areas so that the elderly and the disabled would not have any difficulties continuing their daily lifestyle.

3. I could organise activities that requires the whole family to participate so that they would get to bond and they would get time to spend with each other.
